Complete Guide to Offline GPS Navigation
One of the most dangerous myths in modern travel is that "No Service" means "No Maps." In reality, your phone's GPS chip works perfectly without a data connection. The problem isn't the location—it's the map images (tiles) that require internet.
The Difference: "Blue Dot" vs. "Map Tiles"
When you open a map app, two things happen:
- The Hardware (Offline): Your GPS chip talks to satellites to find your coordinates. This works anywhere on Earth with a sky view.
- The Software (Online): The app downloads images of streets to draw under the blue dot. This fails without data.
